Chiropractic is gentle, natural and drug free primary healthcare profession focussed on your health and wellbeing. It involves the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disorders of the spine, nerves, joints and muscles.
Your nervous system has a map of the rest of you pieced together from all the inputs from your brain, inside your body, and what you can experience of the outside world. It uses this map to check how you are, and predict forwards what you need or want to do. If the map gets distorted, symptoms can be produced - either from the nervous system itself or from altered control of your body's systems or movements. Chiropractic tries to restore the map by stimulating nervous responses from whatever areas we manipulate, and we judge the effectiveness by seeing how well you move and how well you feel afterwards.
Chiropractic care can help with:
- back pain;
- neck pain;
- shoulder and arm pain;
- hip, leg and sciatic pain;
- cervicogenic headaches;
- other joint pain.
During a treatment I will use my hands to locate areas of tension and restriction, and manipulate or adjust as necessary. Adjustments are usually painless, although if there is inflammation in an area it might hurt briefly.
I usually find that most problems resolve with two to six chiropractic treatments, which can be received once or twice per week. Some people take longer to get better than others, and I will do everything I can to help you to help yourself on the road to recovery. I often use chiropractic in conjunction with Neuromuscular Reeducationsm which can dramatically speed up the healing process.
