Frequently Asked Questions

Q. Does chiropractic hurt?

A. McTimoney Chiropractic is usually very gentle and pain-free to receive. However if you are in acute pain, or if an area is particularly sensitive, you may experience momentary discomfort during an adjustment.

Q. Will you crack my neck/back?

A. No. Many forms of chiropractic involve spinal manipulations that involve “cracking” joints, and whilst these are great adjustments it’s not how I work. I use a combination of gentle McTimoney adjustments and soft tissue manipulation to restore movement and function to the joints. Occasionally, something might “click” (which is perfectly harmless) but that isn’t the objective of the treatment.

Q. Will I have to undress for treatment?

A. Not likely. I usually treat through clothing, so just wear something loose and comfortable that allows free movement. Sometimes I do soft-tissue manipulation that requires direct contact with the skin: in these cases I would always explain to you what is required and check that you are comfortable before proceeding.

Q. How do I pay?

A. You can pay by card (contactless preferred) or using google/apple pay on the day, or by bank transfer in advance (please ask for an invoice the day before your appointment and I’ll send it over with the bank details). I do accept cash but in the current climate would prefer electronic payment.

Covid-19 Safety

You can read about any covid-19 updates here.

Q. Do I have to wear a mask when I come for treatment?

A. Yes. To keep all my patients and myself as safe as possible, I require all visitors to either clinic to wear a face covering throughout their appointment.

Q. What PPE will you be wearing?

A. As recommended by Public Health England, I will be wearing a single-use disposable apron and gloves, an IIR fluid-resistant mask, and if I feel you are in the “high risk” category I will also be wearing a visor or goggles.

Q. Is the clinic clean and safe to visit?

A. Both clinics are fully cleaned to a high standard regularly. I allow a 15 minute gap between appointments so that I can spray down and clean all surfaces, and air the room.

Q. I’ve suddenly developed symptoms of covid, or been in contact with someone who has. What’s your cancellation policy?

A. My general cancellation policy is that I require a minimum 24 hours notice to avoid a full cancellation fee. However, if the reason for cancellation is covid-related, you can cancel up to an hour before with no cancellation fee, so long as you do get in touch to cancel. If you fail to turn up for your appointment without letting me know in advance there will be a 100% cancellation fee.

Q. I’m in a local lockdown area, can I come to see you?

A. No. If you have an appointment with me, please call me to rearrange or cancel immediately. To check which areas are affected by local lockdowns, check the government site here.

Q. I’ve ben abroad in the last 14 days, can I come to see you?

A. No, not unless you have travelled from one of the countries on this list. Even then, I would prefer it if you did not visit the clinic for 14 days after your return.
